I Can Be a Meerkat Too!

Mom also saw meerkats at the Fort Worth Zoo recently. I think these might be my most favorite animal friends from the zoo! They are cute and snuggly. I don't know why they are called kats, because they are not really cats!

They are very social and live in large groups, and come from the plains of Africa. They each have different jobs within the group, like baby-sitter, look-out, hunter and teacher. They live in underground tunnels, and eat all sorts of insects, small animals, and even scorpions!

I like meerkats. I wish mom could go adopt one from Petsmart, just like how she got me!

LOOK! I can be a meerkat too!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!

A Monkey with a Nose Like Pinnochio!

One of mom's friends recently moved to Singapore. She is also helping me with my blog and this is very exciting to me to be able to get a photo to post about a real animal in Singapore!

This is a Proboscis Monkey. The only place they can be found in the wild is in Borneo. There are some that live in zoos in other countries, such as in the Singapore Zoo.

These monkeys are on the endangered species list, which is sad, as they are very interesting monkeys. They are most famous for their noses, which grow longer and longer as they get older! They also have very large pot bellies, and make strange honking sounds. My mom's friend said that this particular monkey kept gazing at her with his big beautiful brown eyes, like he wanted to be photographed!

Proboscis Monkeys are threatened with extinction as one of their main predators are humans. People are clearing away their natural habitat making it harder for these monkeys to survive.

I feel sad for these monkeys........I hope they don't become extinct.

Birds on Beaches!

Anywhere near water or beaches is a great place to find
lots and lots of birdies.....too bad cats don't spend that much time on beaches!

Mom's cousin sent me this first
picture of a pigeon on a beach in Barcelona, Spain. It looks like an ordinary, every day pigeon to me, like the kind I see here in Texas. I am sure he finds lots of snacks to eat every day from all the people visiting the beach!

This second picture is of a bird from Palm Beach in Aruba. I found out that this one is called a Ruddy Turnstone, and it actually breeds in the cold remote areas of the Arctic but then comes to Aruba
to roast (not literally!) in the hot sunshine. They like to hang out at the docks and beaches of Aruba. They are very brave and like to eat scraps directly off of open-air restaurant tables and are not at all afraid of people!

Doggie Airline Passenger

I don't know how many of my new animal friends had to travel over the holiday, but if anyone had to fly by plane, it is usually not too much fun. My Daddy Len had a doggie passenger on his flight a couple of months ago, and the doggie had to ride in the belly of the plane. This is the way larger animals have to travel unfortunately, because there is not enough room in the plane's cabin. Daddy Len made sure that this Australian Shepherd got through the flight ok.

I think I would probably have a heart attack AND a stroke if I had to travel like this!

I hope all my animal friends got to their destinations safely this year.

Please sign my GUESTBOOK, when you have a chance.......thanks!

White Chocolate and a Peacock from California!

Today I would like to introduce you to two new friends of mine. These pictures were sent to me by my mom's sister and my cousin Jacob who live in Turlock, California.

This first picture is of a beautiful peacock. He has brightly colored blue and green feathers. I like him a lot, because he is a birdie, and as you know, I LOVE birdies. This peacock lives in Saratoga California at an old barn with a winery in it. Peacocks make really funny sounds, which I don't even know how to describe. Maybe you'll be able to hear one some day so you know what I mean!

The second picture is of a white cat that lives across the street from Jacob, but seems to
like Jacob's house better, as she is always hanging out there instead! Jacob has named her
White Chocolate or W.C. for short!
She does not like to sit still long for photos,
but she has pretty green eyes and very soft
fur. She loved it when Christmas decorations
were put up, and has been hanging out by a
big lit up Christmas polar bear ever since.

I like both of my new friends!
Can you find W.C in this picture?

Please sign my new GUESTBOOK if you can......thanks!

Horses at the Mall?

Mom went to the mall one last time today. She saw horses there, and they were working again. Why do so many horses have to work, and even on Christmas Eve? I could teach them how to play more than work, because I am an expert at that....I know exactly how to get more playtime from my mom!

These horses work for the police department and were helping the police patrol the shopping mall to make sure everyone stayed safe.

I sure hope that these horses at least get Christmas Day off!

I just want to say Merry Christmas to all my new blogging friends and Happy New Year! Thanks for all your visits to my Big World and I hope to see you again soon!

Please sign my new GUESTBOOK, if you can.....thanks!

Flamingo Friends for Friday!

Here is another animal that mom saw at the Ft. Worth Zoo. Flamingos! There were a few different types at the zoo, and this orange/pink one is an American flamingo. This kind is the tallest flamingo found in the Americas.

The Chilean flamingo is another kind of flamingo which can be identified by it's lighter coloring. I heard they come from Chile and other South American countries.

I like flamingos! They are birdies, which I love, and they are also very beautiful. I think I would like to snuggle in their feathers!

Gargoyle Alert, Gargoyle Alert!

Daddy Len came home from a bike ride yesterday and told me he saw a scary gargoyle. I had no idea what a gargoyle was. I thought it was going to be really exciting to see the picture he took.

Well, it wasn't! Daddy Len played another joke on me! I think he was getting back at me for calling him bald in my last post!
Gargoyles are not real, and Daddy Len knows I only like REAL animals!
The Gothic gargoyle was usually a grotesque bird or animal sitting on the back of a building's gutter or cornice and used for projecting water or rain away from buildings. This gargoyle was just sitting at the entrance to someone's house, on Daddy Len's bike ride route. Not too exciting, huh?
Stay tuned for a REALLY fun animal tomorrow. Clue: What likes to stand on one skinny leg, is pink and has snuggly feathers?

Bald Eagles are not REALLY Bald!

Mom and Daddy Len went to the Fort Worth Zoo this past Sunday. Mom likes to look at the animals, but was sad that they had to be locked up, and not in their natural environment.

They went to help me with pictures for my blog, of course. I was SUPER excited when they came home and showed me pictures of my new animal friends! (You can see from my blog, that I get SUPER excited a lot!) I will be posting these pictures mixed in with my other animal friends, so stay tuned!

The first one I want to show you is a bald eagle. The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States of America. This bird used to be on the endangered species list, and there were not many birds left in the world. They have now grown in population and are no longer endangered. I am glad because I think the bald eagle is very distinguished and beautiful.

The only thing I don't understand is why they are called "bald"? I think my Daddy Len is more bald than the bald eagle!!!

My friend, Anna, wrote a nice story about bald eagles recently with an awesome photo, so please visit Anna too!

When We Were Small

My mom did not have a lot of time today to help me with a long post, so I thought I'd just show you some pictures of me and my sisters when we were kittens.

Mom rescued us all from shelters as orphans and saved us from a scary unknown!
We were all SUPER cute and fuzzy back then, and snuggly too!
P.S. We are all still SUPER cute and fuzzy, and still snuggly too!

Swarming Killer Bees in Mexico!

I think I mentioned that Daddy Len is a pilot. Well, he just got back from Mexico and boy did he have a story for me! I was SUPER excited when he told me that he saw a swarm of killer bees.....well, they may or may not have been killer bees, but at least I got your attention! I am not sure if bees are considered animal friends of mine or not.....but I am sure I would not like to get stung!

Daddy Len had parked his plane at the gate in Mexico City, and he glanced at the plane parked next to him, and it had something funny on it's wing. He tried to see what it was, and realized it was thousands of bees that had been swarming and had landed on the airplane wing!

The airport people had put on funny silver suits that made them look like astronauts, and threw buckets of something liquid on the bees to get rid of them. It worked and my friends, the bees were killed!

All except for one bee! This one bee tried to escape to Dallas in the cockpit with Daddy Len! Unfortunately, he did not make it all the way.....

For more details on this story, please go to Views From the Left Seat.

Wild Mountain Goats in Andalucia

Here are my goat friends that mom saw in the mountains of Andalucia in Spain, in the Malaga province. You can't tell from the picture, but they live on a VERY steep mountain. They stopped here to rest because they were really tired from having to climb so far. Mom had to zoom in a lot since they were so far away, so I am sorry this picture is not so good. I will post some pictures of some local Texas goats soon, which will be much better!

I think I like goats, but I heard they might smell bad. I know they don't take as many baths as I do.....I take at least a few cat baths every day!

In Memory of My Cousin, Lizzy

My cousin, Lizzy, passed away recently. She lived at the windmill in Holland with my cousin Monte, whom I have recently introduced on my blog. Lizzy had a long life of about 15 years.

Lizzy was a wild cat when my mom's cousins found her protecting one of her baby kittens in a shed on their property. Lizzy decided the windmill was a great place to make her home, so she adopted my mom's cousins! Her baby kitten was adopted by another good family.

Lizzy had some favorite things that she liked to do......if there was ever an empty box laying around, she would be sleeping in it. She loved the outdoors, and LOVED to hunt for mice! I don't even know what a mouse is.....but I think I would like to hunt for them too, since I am very curious!

Lizzy and Monte were good friends, and sometimes they even slept side by side together. This would last only as long as Monte was not too loud, but then Lizzy would get tired of his antics, and hit him with her paw!

This second picture was one of her best poses. She was very photogenic!

We all miss Lizzy a lot.

Pink Kissing Gourami Fish

These are my fishies. They are pink kissing gouramis, and they have gotten big, and are almost 5 inches long! I think this type of fish originally came from Thailand and Indonesia.

They are the only fish we have, because the others died over the years. These two fish have lived with us for at least 5 years! Sometimes they fight and chase each other around the fish tank.

One day they fought so hard that they poked each other's eyes out! Each only has one eye now!

See! No eyeball!

Fish are ok, but I prefer fluffy, snugly animals! I really only like fish for eating, like Fancy Feast fishy......it's my favorite!

My Friends, the Dutch Sheep and the Dutch Bunny

I can't get out of the house to take my own pictures, because I am a cat. So, my mom's cousin in Holland helped me out by sending me a few more pictures. One is a sheep and one is a bunny. They both live at the windmill also in Holland, and you can see part of the windmill in the picture behind the sheep. The sheep looks big and scary to me, but I think I would like to snuggle in his fur too if he was nice to me, just like with the llamas!

The bunny likes to sleep in the sunshine just like me!

I wish I could go visit all the Dutch animals in Holland ........or on second thought, I wish they could come and meet me at my house, since I don't like to travel much at all.......because I am a cat!

My Cousin Monte from Holland!

This is my cousin Monte. He lives with my mom's cousins in a windmill called
"Molen de Slokop"
in Spaarndam, Holland. My mom has visited him a few times and he is a very crazy dog! He runs around wanting attention all the time, and always carries his tennis ball around hoping that someone will throw it for him. I like playing with tennis balls too, but mine are smaller, just for cats. I don't know how to fetch them and bring them back to mom like he does though.....I just like to run after them really, really fast!
Wow, he likes playing with tennis balls, just like me, and he likes getting attention all the time, just like me too!! I like Monte!

My Friend, Fifi from St Martin

This is my friend Fifi from St. Martin. Fifi lives on the French side of this Caribbean island near Orient Beach. Mom met her on the beach there and she did not seem to have a home. There were many homeless dogs running around the island, and mom was very sad for them all. Mom tried to feed Fifi some French fries, but even though she was homeless, she turned up her nose and did not want them! She must have wanted something more gourmet to eat! St Martin is known for it's great French restaurants, so maybe Fifi was used to better scraps than plain old French fries!!

Does this Ostrich Look Like a Pincushion or a Rubber Chicken??

Here are some more pictures from Aruba. They are of ostriches from an ostrich farm there. They are really big funny looking birds, and they live at this farm to educate people who come to visit.

Mom said that the guide at the farm told her that the females get really jealous of each other. When one female has a male partner, she will pluck the feathers out of any other female that shows any interest in that male. The male will then start plucking the feathers out of the new female too, just to act like he was supporting his girlfriend!

I think this is so silly! Sometimes I wonder about my animal friends! This does not sound like normal behavior
