Out of Office on Big World Assignment

Bad news flash!

My mom and daddy Len will be on assignment on a cruise for the next week! They told me I could not use the computer while they were gone, because I get too many furs between the keys of the keyboard. I will miss you all and see you in a week!

In Memory of My Cousin, Charlie

My cousin, Charlie, went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 17, 2006. This was very sad for me, as my sister, Taffy, passed away on July 29 2006. I lost two furry family members in a very short time!

Charlie was homeless when he was young, and was adopted from Petsmart, just like me. He was a maltese mix. His mom did not know it at the time, but he was deaf, and only when he kept disobeying her, did she realize this handicap!

He loved going on walks to the park, and loved entertaining. His favorite thing to do was to run around in circles as fast as he could, and when everyone laughed at him, he went even faster! I just learned from one of my doggie friends, that this phenomenon is called "zoomies", by the way.

Charlie slept with his mom every night, and never left her side. He died from seizures of unknown origins, and was only about 8 years old.

Charlie's mom has been sad about losing Charlie, but says she may finally be ready to get a new doggie very soon.....story to follow.

Poodle Butts in Palm Beach

My Daddy Len had a short layover in Palm Beach last week and he was on the lookout for Florida animals for me. (He is a pilot, if you don't remember.)

The only thing he could find were these two mini poodles, and he only got a butt shot, and not a good one, I might add.

I must reprimand my reporter, Daddy Len, to make sure that he tries harder next time for a better shot. These could have been famous poodles!

My Daddy Len must be like the paparazzi and do whatever it takes to come back to home base with the very best shot! I'll tell him this tonight when I have my nightly belly snuggle.......

Lesser Kudu? No! I Think they are Great!

I decided to post another photo from the Fort Worth Zoo today. These animals are a type of antelope and are called Lesser Kudu, but I am not sure what is "lesser" about them. They look "great" to me!

Actually there are also some antelopes called Greater Kudu too, but I don't have pictures of them today.

Lesser Kudu originally came from Eastern African countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. They are very graceful and have beautiful spiral horns. What amazing animal friends they are!

They look like they are playing "Follow the Leader" in this photo. Hey, I want to play too!

Buddy the Blue Jay and Friend

My mom took these pictures at her mom's house in Livermore, California last weekend. My grandma likes to feed the birds and she is sure it is the same blue jay that comes back every year to her house.

My mom does not necessarily think this is true, and that it could be a different blue jay each year. Grandma has named this blue jay, Buddy!

The squirrels come by to eat too, and always fight with the blue jays over who gets the most food! Kinda like a food fight! I don't know if blue jays are friends with squirrels, but I know they are both MY friends!

Guess what? My friend Alexis, the boxer, likes to chase this squirrel!

Vultures are NOT My Friends!

Mom saw some black vultures today when she was driving home from the store. She tried to get a better picture of them, but they kept flying away, as if they were scared of mom.....yeah right! Vultures are scavengers, and not scared of anything!

Mom also saw a raccoon that had been hit by a car and it was laying on the side of the road near them. These vultures are NOT my friends! They were waiting to eat my friend, the raccoon!

Needless to say, my mom did not take a picture of the raccoon. That would make me too sad.

Goats like Scaredy Cats?

Here are some goat friends of mine. I don't know what kind of goats they are. They live out in the country with the llamas that I posted a while ago.

They were scared to get their picture taken and kept running away when mom tried to get a good shot.

The daddy is the ram with the big curly horns. He was trying to protect the mama and babies. I did not know goats were really scaredy cats! Their furs are a little fluffy for snuggling, but I don't know if they like cats!

Do Horses Like Cheese?

Here are some more working horses! I don't know why horses seem to have to work so much! Mom saw these horses when she visited Gouda, Holland.

I know most of my readers might be cats, but hopefully some of you have heard of Gouda cheese? Gouda is where this type of Dutch cheese originated, all the way back to the early Middle Ages!

They still hold a weekly "Kaasmarkt" or Cheese Market in the Dutch tradition from hundreds of years ago.

Cheese is still brought to market by horse drawn carriages.

So, this makes me wonder.......do horses like cheese?

I Don't Wanna Be an Iguana

Not too many words today...nearly a Wordless Wednesday. It is hard for me to be wordless, because I like to talk so much!

Here are some pictures of iguanas from Aruba.

This one looks like a scary green monster! What do you think?

This one tried to get comfy on mom's raft, and
mom had to chase him away so he would not
pop the raft with his claws!

I don't wanna be an iguana.....I would rather be a meerkat!

This is One Smart Birdie!

Today I would like to introduce you to my friend, a Triton Cockatoo, named Troy. My mom saw him when she visited St. Thomas last year.

Troy participates in bird shows at the top of Paradise Point in Charlotte Amalie, which is the main town on St. Thomas in the Caribbean. You have to take a tram to get up there, and once there you are about 700 feet above the town.

Troy can roller skate, ride a bike on a tightrope and ride a scooter! Troy is one coordinated and smart birdie! I can't do ANY of those things!

Do Boxers Really Box?

My mom is still away from home, but she sent me some pictures! This is my new friend, Alexis. Alexis is a boxer and lives in Livermore, California, and is a neighbor of my mom's mom. Her daddy says she is small for a boxer, and she only weighs about 45 pounds. That sounds pretty big to me, because I only weigh 7 pounds!

I hear that she loves to chase squirrels, and is a very friendly doggie. She also loves to get her belly scratched, and lays on her back a lot, just in case someone wants to tickle her!

Did you know that boxers are the 7th most popular breed of dogs in the U.S.? They are a German breed, and originally were bred for hunting and holding prey. I guess that's why Alexis likes squirrels so much!

But what I really want to know is......do boxers really box? Hhhmmm.....maybe some of my doggie friends know the answer to this question?

Before you go, please sign my GUESTBOOK, and stop by my SMALL WORLD too, thanks!

I got awards from Forty Paws, and also from Maya and Kena!

Kangaroos Can Be Snuggly Too!

I wanted to change continents today, and show you some kangaroo friends. Kangaroos usually come from Australia, like some of my new blogging friends. They have really long powerful hind legs and can run up to 50km per hour!

I think that these kangaroos look pretty fluffy, and I might want to snuggle in their furs! Mom said that would probably be ok, because they are not as fierce as the lion from my other post, but she told me to watch out for their karate kicks!

Mom saw these particular kangaroos at the zoo too. It was a really cold day and they were having a morning snooze in the sunshine. I like to snooze in the sunshine too!

Another interesting fact is that they carry their babies in a pouch. The baby will stay in it's mom's pouch for sleeping and mom's milk till it is about 8 months old. That sounds SUPER snuggly!

Caribbean Crabbiness!

If you visited my Small World today you probably saw a post where I say I am mad today....well I am! My mom is going on a cruise to the Caribbean, again, and she will leave me and my sisters, all by ourselves, again! Because I am mad, I want to show you some Caribbean crabs today. Yes, I am feeling a little bit crabby today!

The first crab is a ghost crab that mom saw when she was in Belize last year. It is a little creepy and walks really fast sideways. Those sure are some big bug-eyes! They are hard to see in the white sand sometimes.

Mom saw the second crab in Aruba at beautiful "Baby Beach". I don't know what kind of crab this is. There were hundreds running around the rocks, of all sizes!

I hope mom gets pinched by a Caribbean crab on this trip for leaving us by ourselves again! .......Mom, I am sorry, I don't really mean that.....It's just that I will miss you a lot!

Handsome Tiger Kitty....Small Kitty This Time!

Ok, ok. So the lions and tigers from my last post are not really like us small cats. They have whiskers and furs like us, but they are a little frightening! So........here is a picture that my mom's cousin from Holland sent us. She said her friend posed her cat this way. It is a handsome tiger tabby cat, and he lives near my cousin, Monte, in Holland.

I am not sure what he is doing in the photo....what do you think he is doing? He looks like he is concentrating very hard.

Lions & Tigers, No Bears, Oh My!

My kitty friends say they like seeing kitty photos and so they like to visit my Small World. I thought I had better post some kitties in my Big World too, in order to keep my kitty friends coming back to see me here too.

So here you go, some BIG kitty friends for my Big World! These are more pictures from the zoo, and they are of a male Lion (he is the one with the big fluffy mane), a female Lion, an Indochinese Tiger, and a White Tiger.

I think all these kitties are very majestic and beautiful. I told mom I might like to snuggle in the big lion's mane, but mom said he roared REALLY loud and that I might be scared! I guess big kitties like this don't meow like us little kitties.......

Camels in the Country!

Mom has to drive out to East Texas for work sometimes, and she passes by a ranch called Toon Town Texotics, off of Interstate 20.

Mom told me she was not sure what Toon Town was, and she could not find any info on the internet about it either. They have zebras, some big water buffalos and some other animals too in big pastures.
Mom was only able to take pictures of these camels that came by the fence to greet her.
The little baby camel was trying to get some milk from his mama.

My, what long eyelashes a camel has! My eyelashes are not that long!

Long Horns on a Texas Longhorn!

Since I am from Texas, I thought it would be fitting to post an animal friend that is very often associated with all things Texas. This is my longhorn friend. He posed very nicely for my mom with a big mouthful of hay.

The widest horns on some of these cattle have been recorded to be over 7 feet wide! Those are some big horns. I had better not make my new friend mad!

I like him, even though he is not very fluffy or snuggly. There you have it....my short story about some long horns!

I Got an Award from Doggie Friends!

I got an award today from some special doggie friends, Eddie, Peaches and Bella. I was so surprised and SUPER excited!

I would like to paw it forward to these blogging buddies: The Furry Bambinos (because they have a Meerkat!) and Maya and Kena.
Thanks again to Eddie, Peaches and Bella!

Birdie Butts on a Wire

The dinosaur photos from yesterday were not my favorite, so let me post some birdies to make me feel better!

Here are some birdies that mom saw outside her gym a couple of days ago. I told you she takes her camera everywhere, just for me and my blog! She only was able to get a butt shot from the parking lot because she could not stop in the middle of the street to take any pictures from the other side.

I think they are every day, ordinary pigeons or doves. I hope you like them.....birdies are my favorite, you know! Birdies are my friends!

I Was Tagged!

My friend, Anna, tagged me for a question, and I was not sure what to do and what tagging meant! Here is the question she asked me:

When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions we seem to fall into four categories: 1) quite serious about them, 2) be flippant about them, 3) do it because we feel pressured to, or 4) do not do them. So, the purpose of this little game is to let us know which category you are in.

As for me, JB, I really don't make resolutions. I think my life is really very simple and my world is quite "small", I am pretty perfect the way I am (he he!), my life is really good, and I am super happy.

Here is the game: What are your resolutions? I will tag the following friends to answer: Sweet Ariel, Daisy, Johann, Andree, and the owner of the beautiful Estonia Wildlife and Nature blog which I visit frequently.

Fake, Fake, Fake!

Mom and Daddy Len went to a museum over the weekend. The museum was having a special exhibition of replicas of dinosaurs, and it sounded like it was going to be very interesting to me for my blog.

But what a surprise it was, when mom brought home the pictures she took! I have never seen dinosaurs before.......though I am pretty smart, and know they are extinct.....but I thought they would at least look real! They did not......they looked fake, fake, fake!! Take a look and tell me what you think. I think they look like cartoons!

This is definitely not a good example of animal friends for my Big World! Maybe I should go back to being a Meerkat!
