Whoo Are You, Whoo Whoo, Whoo Whoo?

Well today I will show you my Owl animal friend. He lives at the Ft Worth Zoo, in the Texas Wild! exhibit area. Mom could not remember what kind of owl he was, so I apologize, for the inaccuracies of my post. Usually I am much smarter than this!

Owls are nocturnal and have very good eyesight expecially at night, and use their sharp claws or talons for catching their prey, like mousies. They can fly totally silently too. Owls can move their head around either way up to 270 degrees to see.....Wow, even I can't do that!

I like owls. They are my friends. And they are birdies, which makes me like them even more! I just hope they don't like to catch "Jelly Beans" with those talons!

We had an owl outside our house last summer for a long time and every night it would say "Whoo Whoo" and keep mom and daddy Len awake.

My post is shorter today than usual, because my mom is telling me that she is getting ready to leave me again and does not have time to blog! I will have to write about that in my Small World.......Tears, JB

Kitties in Aruba!

Mom saw a couple of kitties when she was in Aruba last September. They lived at a restaurant near the California Lighthouse on the northern tip of Aruba.

The gray one was too scared and would not let mom touch her. She looked very lonely!

The black one looked like he had some sort of eye problem, and was not feeling well. He purred and purred when mom tickled him.

I feel sad for them. It did not look like they had a nice home and mom to snuggle with, though they did have a really nice view! Maybe they could have stowed away with my mom and come to live with me! Well, maybe not....because then I would not get as much attention from my mom!

If you look real close in this photo you will see
one of the little yellow birdies found all over
Aruba!

The kitties and birdies lived together in harmony!.......or so it seems!

Meet Max!

Today I would like to present, Charlie's adopted brother, Max. If you remember Charlie's Story, Charlie's mom had a hard time getting over losing Charlie, but now has adopted a new doggie!

Meet my new cousin, Max! Max is a mini Dachshund, and has had a hard life, but now has a great new home with Charlie's mom!

Max is about 8 years old. He was found about a year ago wandering the streets near Dallas, all alone, so nobody knows how bad it really was for him. For the last year he lived with some friends of Charlie's mom near Austin, but they were an elderly couple and they could no longer care for Max.

Charlie's mom heard about the dilemma that Max was in, and quickly said she would adopt him! Max has been with Charlie's mom for only 2 weeks now and he loves his new home. He can't believe his good fortune, and he now gets to sleep in a king size bed every night and with a new mom!

Max is very easy going, and loves to sleep in his own bed too. He likes to burrow under his blanket to keep warm. Charlie's mom is so glad to have Max, and she just wishes that Charlie could have known his adopted brother!

Max is already spoiled, and gets to go for walks 3 times a day! I am so happy for my new cousin, Max. He is a really nice doggie, and I hope you like him too!

And Now For Something REALLY Big!!

Mom saw these BIG animal friends at the zoo, and they are Rhinoceroses! Mom saw two different types.

The first type is an African Rhino. It frightens me a lot! It has super big horns which could hurt a small Jelly Bean like me!

Rhinos have lived on earth for more than 50 million years! They are dwindling in numbers and could become extinct. This make me very sad.....

All rhinos have some things in common. They have big heads, wide chests, thick legs, excellent hearing, and love to roll around in the mud! I don't know if I could invite these friends to my house, because I prefer friends who bathe.....and so does my mom!

Rhinos are also very nearsighted so they tend to charge when they get scared, so this gives them the reputation of having bad tempers! I will still be their friends though....

This second type is an Asian Rhino. It has thick folds of skin but why the bumpy butt?

I think my rear view is
much more attractive!

Hey!!.......I can't believe my mom posted my rear view! This is not very ladylike for me!

Escargot Anyone?

I already did a post about Barbary Apes a while back, and I don't like to repeat animals. However, my friend Tybalt was talking about onions the other day, which made me think of this story from the Rock of Gibraltar.

Mom saw these Barbary Apes at the Rock of Gibraltar. They live there freely and every day they have an interesting meal. There are people at the Rock who help provide extra food for the apes and guess what it is? Vegetables like cabbage and onions! You will be able to smell a strong odor as you walk up as they LOVE to eat whole onions!

After they eat as much as they can, they like to take a snooze. This ape was leaning up again a wall, and sound asleep!

Mom also saw hoards of these snails all over the roads. I pondered another thought.......why don't the apes just eat the snails? Oh, I know! They don't like escargot!

(P.S. If you are not familiar with escargot on a restaurant menu, it is snails!)

Swiss Cows for Swiss Milk & Swiss Cheese

My mom's aunt in Switzerland heard about my blog and wanted me to showcase some Swiss animals. She sent my mom some pictures to scan.

These are some Swiss cows. They live near Spiez which is near the Lake of Thun in the Berner Oberland canton of Switzerland. I like the curly furs on the tops of their heads!

I hope these cows are used for making Swiss Milk and Swiss Cheese, and I hope people aren't raising these cows to eat them!

Mom remembered on her visits to Switzerland as a child, seeing the Swiss cows wearing cow bells.

The sound of the bells would let their owner know where they were so they would not get lost.........I don't need to wear a bell around my neck because my mom ALWAYS knows where I am!

(sorry the scans are not so good, but it is the best my mom could do from older photos)

A Lizard For Daisy!

What in the world is a Green Tree Monitor? And what does it monitor? Green trees?

Mom saw this strange lizard at the Fort Worth Zoo, but it is originally from New Guinea. It is known for it's unusual colors, and it eats insects and lives up in trees. It has a 3rd eye to help with sensitivity to light and dark. It can grow up to 2.5 feet long!

I think my friend, Daisy, would like this lizard. She is a lizard hunter. She had better watch out for the 3rd eye though!

My Friend, Hana the Eskie

This is my friend, Hana. Hana is an American Eskimo doggie, or Eskie for short. She lives in California. When I first met Hana on her blog, I don't think she liked me much, because I am a cat.....or at least did not want to admit it!
American Eskimos originated in Germany and are actually a member of the Spitz family. Originally called the German Spitz, the name was changed because of anti-German prejudice during WWI, to the current name, American Eskimo Dog. Eskies were recognized as a breed by the AKC in 1994.

Hana just had her barkday, and is 8 years old. Her mom made her delicious pupcakes for her barkday.

You will find it very impressing that Hana can drive a red sportscar. I have never met a dog OR cat that could drive a car!

Hana has been wanting me and my mom to post a picture of an Eskie, but so far we have not met one to photograph for my Big World. So, I told my mom that we should post a picture of Hana, because she must be the most beautiful Eskie around and would be a great example of this doggie breed! AND, Hana is my friend!

Please go visit Hana and say hello! She is one cool floofy doggie!

P.S. She does not like poodles much.....but I think she is warming up to cats!

Valentine's Day Duck

Since today is Valentine's Day, I tried to look through my photos to see what kind of pink animal I could post. I already posted pink flamingos, so did not want to repeat. So, here is what I found.

This is a duck my mom saw at the Fort Worth Zoo. We are not sure exactly what variety of duck this is. For my purposes today, this duck is a Valentine's Day Duck!

He has a pretty pink bill, which is fitting for this day! Plus, a bonus point, is that he is a birdie! And you know how much I like birdies! Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!

Pleasant Pasture

Mom and daddy Len went on their first bike ride of 2008 this past weekend, because it was finally warm enough. Look! They saw some more of my animal friends!

They saw some pretty horses, and guess what! They were not working! They are able to spend time in a beautiful pasture and just feel the warm sunshine on their faces, and eat healthy grasses.

These horses live with some cows too.

Daddy Len named this
particular cow "Gateway"! If you
remember Gateway Computer, when they used to advertise a lot, well, they had a Holstein cow as a mascot.

This cow looks just like the Gateway Cow! Maybe he retired and now gets to live peacefully in this pasture! He must be eating too many carbs, because he sure has a big belly!

Award from Crikit, Sparky & Ginger!

I got an award recently from some great doggie friends at Barking Loud!!!

I want to apologize for taking so long to post it, but my mom is working too much, so she is having trouble helping me blog! I am going to pass this award on to all of my blogging friends, because we love visiting all of you! Thank you so much to Crikit, Sparky and Ginger!

............If mom would only let me use the computer while she is gone........I promised I would not get too many furs between the keys!

Charlotte the Spider

Late last summer, my mom saw an interesting spider in our backyard. We named it Charlotte. She lived in our backyard for a couple of months, and kept rebuilding her web whenever it fell apart.

Mom got scared of Charlotte though, because one day she saw her do a big bungee jump! Charlotte jumped down 5 feet to the ground and tried to catch a grasshopper, and then bungeed back up to her web! If you look at the photo, you will see the zigzag in her web, and this is what she used to bungee jump!

Charlotte was not poisonous though, and her variety is known as an Argiope or St. Andrews Cross Spider.

One day, Charlotte was gone, and I miss her. Charlotte was my friend. As you may know, I LOVE bugs and spiders, so I would have liked to play with her!

Mardi Gras Dog Parade 2008

Here is an exciting event that happened last weekend in McKinney Texas, right near my house! Mom got carried away taking so many photos, I think. What.....does she like dogs more than she likes cats, or something??

Mom went to the Mardi Gras Dog Parade in McKinney, Texas. This year was the 6th year the event was held, and it was called Krewe of Barkus - Rock & Roll Paw of Fame.

Mom saw hundreds of dogs, from a baby teacup chihuahua to a huge great dane! I hope you enjoy my doggie friends in all their glory!

Fats Domino and Ducks in St. Thomas! (Day 5 on Big World Assignment)

Day 5 and the cruise is almost to its end with the last stop in St. Thomas. This was an exciting day!

I have a new animal friend named Fats Domino! Fats is a baby pitbull mix, and mom met him outside a cafe in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. His owners said he was only 3 months old and loved getting attention. He looks sort of like a domino with the white and black patches! The original Fats Domino was a singer born in New Orleans, who is known for singing about some kind of "thrill on Blueberry Hill."

I want to comment that I don't think pitbulls are bad doggies, but they just get a bad reputation, when they have bad owners. There was a recent story of a football player who was a very bad owner to some pitbull doggies. This story made me sad. I like pitbulls, and they are my friends.

Mom also saw some friendly ducks at Sapphire Beach in St. Thomas. Mom fed them bread from the ship and they were SO happy. They have pretty colored bills.

Too Many Chickens in Tortola! (Day 4 on Big World Assignment)

Day 4 of the cruise stopped in Tortola and brings a lot of clucking, and I mean a LOT!

Tortola had chickens, chickens and more chickens and at least one REALLY big rooster! He looks a little scary to me and has frightening "paws". Mom said he crowed really loud each time she got too close to him!

I have to admit, that I have never seen a chicken before, and the baby chicks are so tiny and floofy.....maybe they would like to come and snuggle in my furs? I would let them, you know....

Chickens are really a type of birdie, so I like them a lot.....except for that big bad rooster who frightens me.......I would run away fast if he tried to peck me!

Hang Over in Antigua (Day 3 on Big World Assignment)

Here we go, with Day 3.......Hang Over in Antigua. Being on a cruise with such a short time in each port leaves little time for animal hunting, as you will see!

Mom found out that Antigua has a humane society even though it is a very small island. Maybe that explains why mom could not find any stray animals around at all! I hope all the animals were finding good homes and not being put to sleep......

Mom and daddy Len searched and searched, and searched some more for REAL animals for me in Antigua, but all they could find was this bear wearing a "Got Rum?" T-shirt! Ok, they tried, I guess.

A question I have.....what is this thing that people call "rum"?

Mom told me is something like nip for cats, but for people.

Too much rum makes people act silly, just like too much nip makes cats act silly! Either one can cause a bad hangover!!

So Long in St. Lucia (Day 2 on Big World Assignment)

Day 2 was not so good, so I will apologize in advance, and I am upset to post this today.....here we go to St. Lucia......

Mom caught a bad ship flu and was feeling terrible on her day in St. Lucia. She was not able to go into town to look for animals for me and did not see any at all on her shore excursion today.
Daddy Len decided to try to help out, so he took this picture of a roasted pig, which I do not like one bit!!!

A pig should be frolicking on a farm or swimming in a warm mud bath.......and definitely should NOT be laying buttered and roasted on a platter on a buffet table!

I am sad for Mr. Pig. Mr. Pig was my friend, and now he can't be any more! What is wrong with people that they let this happen?? So long, Mr. Pig........
