Sherman the Seal and a Puppy in Vegas?

Daddy Len just got back from a day trip to Las Vegas. If you don't remember, my daddy Len is a pilot.

He told me that he saw two animals on his trip! The first animal was a Seal! I said: "How could you have seen a seal at the Las Vegas Airport??"

He showed me then......yep, another joke played on the Jelly Bean!


The seal was on a nearby Frontier Airlines plane. Frontier's slogan is
"A Whole Different Animal", so their planes have different animals on the tails that are native to the regions the airline serves.

Frontier has actually named this seal, "Sherman"! Funny, huh?

Daddy Len also got a picture for me of a Puppy who had to ride in the cargo compartment of daddy Len's, MD-80 "birdie in the sky", from Dallas to Vegas. This makes me sad because it must have been very scary for this puppy.

Daddy Len says that the plane belly is temperature controlled, and American Airlines does not allow pets to fly in the summer when it is too hot. Thank goodness, but I still think this is a very bad way to travel!! Mom and daddy Len agree....

How Are You, Mr. Emu?

My mom saw these big birdies in Aruba! They are called Emus and they are the second largest birdies in the world after ostriches!


These emus live on a farm in Aruba where they are used along with ostriches to educate people about them. Emus are native to Australia, however.

They have shaggy greyish-brown feathers. They have really long legs and their feet have 3 toes facing forward and no hind toe. I think they look like they have mohawk hair-do's!!

The male emu is the one that incubates the eggs......now how about that! This period lasts 55 days. He will not eat, drink, or poop during this time, and only stands up to turn the eggs about 10 times a day! Now that is one dedicated daddy!





Look at how floofy this little baby emu is! I sure would like to snuggle with him!

I like emus, because they are birdies, so again this makes emus some of my favorite friends! I sure have a lot of "favorite friends", don't I?

Sad Swift Foxes

Mom saw these foxes at "Texas Wild" at the Ft Worth Zoo. They are called Swift Foxes. They normally live in the central and southern plains of Texas.....but these two do not!

My mom was sad to see these foxes. They had to be locked up in a really small cage, and could not even run around at all.

They should live in the wild, where they can live by their natural instincts.

They are called "swift" because of their speediness! I am sad for these foxes. I am sure if they were free, then they could be very, very swift!

They spend a lot of time underground in their burrows. Their diet consists of prairie dogs, ground squirrels, mice, rabbits, birds, reptiles, amphibians, berries and seeds.

I would like to snuggle with them to make them feel better......but at second thought, maybe not. Mom told me to be careful, because they might mistake me for a prairie dog and think I was their dinner!

Geese From Canada?

My mom saw these Geese last week when she
was at one of her accounts in Irving, Texas. (My mom is on "Big World assignment" even when she is working!)


They are called Canada Geese. They are very common in Texas in the winter months, and migrate throughout Texas.

They like to fly in "V" formations across the sky. Sometimes they are called the "Canadian Honker" because of the interesting musical honking sounds that they make.

A sad fact is that the Canada Goose is considered a game bird and it is widely hunted in Texas! This upsets me a lot. I think that since they are called "game birds", then they should be able to play lots of games! I would play with them, you know.....

I like Canada Geese, and they are another type of birdie which makes them some of my favorite friends! I hope you like them too.

My Friend, The "Northern" Cardinal

This is my friend the Northern Cardinal. I don't know why it is called "Northern" because we saw this bird in our back yard and we live in the South!

This is the female Cardinal. We have not seen the male daddy Cardinal yet this year, so no pictures of him yet.

The male is much more noticeable as he is completely bright red.

The female only has a little color, but has a beautiful orange/red colored beak. Mom says the male is brighter colored because males always have to be the center of attention!

This cardinal was visiting our bird feeder and she is friends with the doves also. Mom buys special seed called Safflower, to attract the Cardinals.

I like Cardinals, and they are birdies, which makes them some of my favorite friends!

In Memory of LacyLulu

Another sad story to report today. My friend LacyLulu, has unexpectedly gone to the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. My paws are crossed in her memory, and my prayers are with her family. She was a great furry friend.

LacyLulu, please go find Monte and my sister, Taffy, and make sure they are ok. I hope you all become fast furry friends......

In Memory of My Cousin, Monte

I have some sad news to report.
My cousin, Monte, who I wrote about in December, has unexpectedly gone to the Rainbow Bridge.

I am so sad, and my paws are crossed in his memory. My mom's cousin in Holland said that Monte got some kind of terrible disease in his eye, and he was in so much pain. I heard that there was nothing that could be done to help him.

He is now at the Bridge with with my sister, Taffy. He can run after as many tennis balls as he wants now.

An Elephant Never Forgets

This is my animal friend, Mr. Elephant. He
lives at the Fort Worth Zoo. My mom could not
remember if he was (Asian or African). -- No, I found out from Andrea, that this is an Indian elephant! Thanks Andrea!


I know that elephants are very smart, and they never forget. I wish my mom would not forget things....she even forgets about me too sometimes!







Elephants have the largest brain size compared to their body weight than any other animals, next to humans!

I like this elephant. He has some cute fuzzies on the top of his head.....sort of like my daddy Len.



Elephants can grow up to 13 feet tall and weigh up to over 15,000 pounds! They are big, but very gentle animal friends.

I would like to go for a ride on his back, for sure! I like elephants and they are my friends.

Why Do Doggies Need Day Camp?

My mom went to PetSmart the other day and she saw a Day Camp for Doggies! Now why do doggies need Day Camp?

Why isn't there a day camp for kitties too? We kitties like to have fun too! But I get scared if I have to leave my house, so maybe my mom could start a Kitty Day Camp at MY house?

I know that I would like to take a ride down that red slide!

Oh well, time for me to take a nap.....Zzzzzzz....maybe in JB's Dream World I can design a super fun Kitty Day Camp! It would have lots and lots and LOTS of toys......

Bugs or Fish?

My mom likes to shop at her favorite grocery store,
Central Market. Last weekend, she saw some of my animal friends there, but she was afraid to tell me about them, because she thought I'd be upset again like with my last post about cows and beef!

It was Crawfish weekend at the market. Now, I usually like this market, as this is where my salmon comes from, but I am not so sure now!

My Crawfish friends were displayed alive in a big bin next to some foil wrapped potatoes!



Mom picked one up to show me how big they are! They have really big pinchers which scare me, and they like to live in mud in Louisiana.

They were displayed dead and boiled, at the fish counter inside......






These animals are sometimes called Crawfish and sometimes called Mudbugs. This makes me confused. Are they bugs or are they fish??

On my last post I said I would not eat beef any more, because cows are my friends. I would say that these Crawfish are my friends too, so does this mean I can't eat fish any more?


A thought to ponder........If I don't eat fish any more, I will starve......so maybe I will have to consider that these animals are just Mudbugs?

No More Beef For Me!

Mom and daddy Len's CA to TX car trip next took them to New Mexico. I was not any happier about the animal pictures they took here either. You will see why.

See all these nice cows? Daddy Len said these fenced in corrals were called stockyards. I asked him what they were and why there were so many cows having a "cattle conference". At first he did not want to tell me, because he knew I would be upset......

I see why now! These cows are being raised for people to eat them! My friends, the cows, have no idea what is in store for them!

I can only hope that these cows grazing near the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo Texas, are not awaiting the same fate!

I will now only eat fishies because they have no furs and that seems ok to me, but I won't eat any more beef in my Fancy Feast after this!

Not Much Lives in the Petrified Forest!

On Day 2 of their car trip from CA to TX, Mom and daddy Len left Holbrook, Arizona and they saw all sorts of fake dinosaurs everywhere! It seemed that this was the mascot of the area with the ancient Petrified Forest nearby.

They took a side trip to see the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert, in search of more of my REAL animal friends.

They hardly saw any animals in this barren lonely place, except a rabbit, a chipmunk and a couple of BIG black birdies. My friends, the rabbit and chipmunk ran away scared before mom could take their picture.

These birdies looked like they might have been EATING, my friends, the rabbit or chipmunk! They kept swooping down in this dried brush, and came up with pieces of "something" in their mouths.

That is it for animals here. Not much lives in the Petrified Forest, or so it seems!

I was a bit disappointed that I had hardly any animal friends here.....

Getting Their Kicks on Route 66

Mom and daddy Len got to Arizona, and saw a few other animals on the way. Of course, another joke was played on me, with this fake owl next to the Route 66 sign!

I am getting tired of these jokes played on me! Mom and daddy Len know that I only like REAL animals! They got their kicks on Route 66 at the expense of me, the Jelly Bean!

Ater this, mom and daddy Len started driving

into a snowy area and it was very cold, around 32 degrees. They came across this poor doggie who had to ride in the back of this truck, so the wind chill on his furs had to be way below freezing! This doggie does not have as good a mom or daddy as I have. I feel sad for this doggie.

Finally mom and daddy Len made it to Holbrook, Arizona. Mom took one last shot of some birdie friends for me on this Grand Canyon Railway billboard.

They slept in a WigWam which is like a teepee! I think that a wigwam would be just the right size for me! Daddy Len thought there was probably a lot of bugs in it....and you know how I like bugs!

Mr. Pony and Mr. Horse, My "Personal" Friends!

Mom got me some animal pictures on her car trip from CA to TX! Horses also seem to be everywhere just like pigeons and cows....and they are all my animal friends! They come in all shapes and sizes......even in Pony sizes!

This is a one cute Pony! He is small, just like me! His furs were extra long, not like a regular horse, and they were ever so floofy!

When mom got out of the car, the Pony and this other horse with a sway back came right up to mom! They discussed with my mom "personally" that they wanted to be my friends! I was SUPER excited when mom told me this!

They live in this field near Tehachapi Pass in California. There are lots of windmills at this pass because it gets super windy here, so people collect electricity from the wind with these windmills. If you look close you can see this "Wind Farm" in the picture.

Blue BEAST and Ants??

The next few posts will be from my mom and daddy Len's car trip from CA to TX this past weekend.......because they promised me some animal pictures!


When they got home, Daddy Len said they traveled in a Blue Beast from CA! As you can imagine, I was SUPER excited (as I get), to see the Blue Beast! Well, daddy Len was playing another joke on me! The rental car that they got was HUGE from what they are used to driving, so he called it the Blue Beast! Silly daddy Len!

They had to rent this Beast to transport the "ant"-teek furniture from CA to TX. I say, why bother, if the furniture has ants in it??


Don't bring any more ants home! We already have too many ants in TX! Fire ants, that is!


I don't think I should be friends with fire ants. My mom told me to stay FAR away from them!

Much More Than Four & Twenty Blackbirds!

Mom was at the mall recently, and what a sight she saw! Looks like Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds"!

There were black birdies everywhere! Mom said it looked like thousands of them!

Reminds me of a nursery rhyme.......

Sing a Song of Sixpence (AKA, Four and Twenty Blackbirds Baked in a Pie)
Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?

When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!

These birdies must have been having a birdie conference. I like birdies a lot and they are my friends, but this might be too many birdies for me all at one time.....I would not want to get my nose pecked off like in the nursery rhyme!
