Wetlands are for Turtles and Turtles are my Friends

Still reporting from the Heard Natural Science Museum and Sanctuary, here we have some suntanning Red Eared Slider Turtles, in the native North Texas Wetlands.
These turtles like to suntan to raise their body temperatures, because their bodies can not produce internal heat on their own.

Here is a picture of my mom on Big World Assignment in the Wetlands.  I am glad she was not slacking off on this assignment, like she sometimes does!

These Turtles are just like me, because I like to suntan too!

The Wetlands are ephemeral.  This is a fancy word that means this area fills up with water from the fall and spring rain, but then dries up in the summer months.
For a small LadyCat, I sure am smart, don't you think?  Heh heh, I like using big fancy words.

Save the Heard Sanctuary!

Last week, mom became a member at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney Texas.

It is near our house, and mom never fully explored the preserve, until I recently sent her there on Big World Assignment!

Mom did make one mistake, and she forgot to bring her Big World Research Permit, so she could not visit all the Protected Areas.

The preserve is beautiful, with natural trees and plants and wonderful trails to hike.

And some interesting plant-like formations that I am not familiar with, since I am an feline expert on Animal Friends, not plant life.
~
However, things are not good, and there is a big lawsuit going on between the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) and the Heard Sanctuary, which could affect the Preserve's habitat.
The NTMWD wants to put a 3500 foot long sewage line through the Sanctuary!

My animal friends, like the Raccoons who live here, could be affected terribly, with disruption of their environment.

This Yellow Bellied Water Snake may have to slither away and raise his family elsewhere, as may some of my other Animal Friends who live here.

If you want to help save the Heard Sanctuary, please visit their website to learn more, and sign the Petition to stop this horrible thing from happening:

Thank you for your support!
